The Benefits of an Immune Booster for Kids

The Benefits of an Immune Booster for Kids

The start of the new school year brings with it the typical coughs, colds, and bugs that seem to proliferate around kids, especially as the winter flu season begins to loom. Of course, as a parent, there's nothing worse than your child being sick and not being able to do anything to make it better; however, there are several things that are simple and easy that can help keep immune systems primed for action.

While there is a heap of vitamins and supplements on the market today, Beta Kids is a product that has been specifically designed with kids in mind. It combines beta-glucan, selenium, and vitamin D3 in a daily gummy that is easy to take. All three have been researched extensively, with their positive effects on the immune system well established. When the Beta Kids gummy is combined with a good diet, physical exercise, and decent sleep patterns, the immune system is as prepared as possible thus the potential risk of your child having to take time off school due to illness is minimized. It is very important to boost the immune system given that North American winters tend to have limited sunshine hours.

Vitamins in Food

Significant research has been completed around the human immune response. A number of vitamins and nutrients are identified as key in mounting a quick and meaningful response when pathogens invade. Several vitamins that help fight off illness and are especially important to children can be found in food sources.

Zinc

Zinc plays a significant role in the innate immune system. This system is the first line of defense against bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. The innate immune system aims to keep these invaders out.  Most protein-based foods, such as red meat, poultry, and oysters, are ideal sources of zinc.

Probiotics and Prebiotics

The human gut is home to a huge amount of both good and bad bacteria. Prebiotics help the body by stimulating the growth of good bacteria, while probiotics help ensure a healthy balance between good and bad bacteria is maintained.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds should be a part of every diet due to the positive health benefits they provide. They are jam-packed with nutrients and vitamins, including potassium, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, and vitamins E, B6, B12, and A. In addition, they are an excellent source of the plant equivalent of omega-3 fatty acids, alpha-linolenic acid, which has been shown to counter various illnesses.

Fruit and Vegetables

There's a reason for the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away - it's true. As well as being an excellent source for a whole host of nutrients, fruit and vegetables possess antioxidants that protect the cells in the body against unwanted intruders such as bacteria and other nasty bugs.

Sleep

Sleep is essential if a kid's immune system is to function properly. Preschool kids should be getting 10 to 13 hours each night, 6-13-year-olds need 9 to 11 hours, while adolescents need 8 to 10 hours nightly. If kids don't get enough sleep, their immune systems will struggle to fight infections and inflammation.

Exercise

Regular physical activity is important because it helps the body to become more resilient, preparing the immune system to respond when it detects an imminent threat. An added bonus is when physical activity is completed outside in the sun, the body's Vitamin D supply will be boosted. Vitamin D plays a key role in the immune response.

Beta Kids

While diet, sleep, and physical activity levels play a significant role in kids remaining healthy, with school restarting soon and the likelihood there will be bugs lurking, it is the perfect time to prepare their immune system.

Beta Kids contains beta-glucan, vitamin D3, and selenium, all of which play a significant role in the immune response and should be a welcome addition to every parent's arsenal.

What is Beta-Glucan?

While beta-glucan has been a key part of eastern medicine for some time, its use in the western world has been limited until recently. This is due in part to its previous high cost. However, having become more affordable recently, it is building some momentum in the consumer popularity stakes.

Beta-glucan is what is known as an immuno-modulator. The role of an innumo-modulator is to support immune system function. This is done by making changes to the immune system, so it works at maximum efficiency.

How Does Beta-Glucan Work?

Beta-glucan is not produced naturally by the body, so to experience its benefits, it must be taken as a supplement. In the context of the immune system, beta-glucan has been shown to stimulate macrophages that contribute to the first line of defense by attacking, ingesting, and demolishing the invading pathogens. Macrophages also stimulate other cells to attack and release cytokines, enabling the different cells mounting the immune response to communicate with each other.

The average person at any one time has about 30% of their available immune response active. Beta-glucan has been shown to increase this to 60%, which means a faster and more effective response can be mounted immediately when a threat is detected.

The positive impact that beta-glucan can have on a child's immune system has been borne out by the research. The Journal of Academy of Pediatrics showed that children who were taking beta-glucan found to be absent from daycare fewer days due to illness when compared to those who were not taking it.

Research has also shown that beta-glucan provides increased resistance against pathogens that have in recent years begun to become resistant to conventional treatments. One example of this is E. Coli which is known to be easily spread among children and can result in severe diarrhea. Beta glucan has also been shown to be effective in minimizing the effects of Staph. Aureus, a common childhood infection, when used in unison with antibiotics.

Safety of Beta Glucan

Research has been undertaken to consider the safety of beta-glucan for children. To date, none of these studies have discovered it to cause any adverse effects.

This is evidenced by Beta Kids having received a Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) rating from the FDA in accordance with the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The process that a product goes through to achieve this rating is rigorous and examines all safety aspects.

Beta Kids combines beta-glucan, selenium, and vitamin D3, all of which have a positive effect on the immune systems of children.

Selenium

Selenium is antioxidative. This means it reduces the oxidative stress on the body and, in doing so, decreases the level of inflammation which has the flow-on effect of enhancing the immune response. Recent research has also suggested that selenium has an antiviral effect on the body, which enhances the response of the immune system to viral pathogens.

Vitamin D3

There is increasing evidence confirming the role that vitamin D3 plays in facilitating the immune response. Although the relationship between vitamin D3 and sunshine is well established, recent research has shown that maintaining a healthy vitamin D3 level also protects against viral infections. Although further research is needed in the area, the research to date is clear regarding the advantages of avoiding vitamin D3 deficiencies.

Synergistic Effect

Research has clearly shown that each of the three key ingredients of Beta Kids, beta-glucan, selenium, and vitamin D3, has a positive effect on the immune system.

However, there has also been significant research into the synergistic effect when the three ingredients are taken in unison, with several studies completed at various universities and teaching hospitals. The evidence supports the proposition that when taken in unison, beta-glucan, selenium, and vitamin D3 enhance the other ingredients' positive qualities, creating a synergistic effect that further boosts the immune response of children.

I've been giving my kiddies these chewables now for about a year. I'm really pleased with this product. If my kiddies get sick, they recover in a day or two. Prior to these chewables, they would suffer miserably for a week. I also feel strongly that their immune system is stronger than ever and that's what they need, especially during this pandemic!
